Fun In The Sun!
The Residents of St. Joseph’s Home have been taking advantage of the beautiful summer days. So far, they have gone on two trips, one to Liberty State Park and another on a paddlewheel boat cruise in Point Pleasant.
At Liberty State Park they had a barbeque and enjoyed sitting in the sun with a lovely ocean breeze, watching the boats in New York Harbor, with Lady Liberty casting her gaze across the water. The Residents remarked on how their families “came over” so many years ago, with the Statue of Liberty welcoming the poor immigrants to America, looking to make a new life in a new land.
All Aboard The River Belle!
On August 1 the Residents were off again, this time to Point Pleasant for dinner and a cruise on the River Belle. Leaving from Brielle, the boat takes passengers on the Manasquan River, Point Pleasant Canal and turns around in Barnegat Bay for the trip back, all part of the Intracoastal Waterway. While taking in the scenery, our Residents had a delicious meal, starting with a full salad bar and then the main meal: meatballs, pasta, two types of chicken and vegetables. But what all of them RAVED about was the chocolate chip cookies that were baked specially for them right on board! After dinner and dessert, everyone went outside to enjoy the sea air and cool breeze. There are many sights to see on the trip, beautiful shore homes, people on their boats fishing and the small islands, where legend has it that pirates buried their treasure. One island was even named “treasure island” by none other than Robert Louis Stevenson himself!
Unfortunately, the boat returned to the dock and everyone had to disembark for the trip back home. The Residents all said that they had a wonderful day, the meal and the cookies being a high point. Many thanks to the wonderful Captain and crew of the River Belle who was so helpful and attentive to all of their passengers from Totowa.
Summer lasts until September 21 and there are more trips planned as well as the Holy Smokes Picnic. Check back to see the Residents of St. Joseph’s Home having Fun In The Sun!
