The recent Bingo and Ice Cream Party held for the Residents of St. Joseph’s Home for the Elderly was the latest in a succession of events sponsored over a period of 30 years or more by the Passaic-Clifton District Council of Catholic Women for those who reside with the Little Sisters.
Our relationship with the Little Sisters’ home began with a series of yearly barbecues in the summer and Christmas parties at the Dey Street residence in Paterson. In recent years, we’ve held a party each year in the winter or spring at the Home, now located in Totowa.
We’ve been joined at these events by the Youth Group of St. Antony of Padua Church in Passaic, who add their special joy and friendship to the proceedings under the leadership of Lori DiGaetano, their Youth Minister. The seniors and the young people have developed a very warm and rewarding relationship.
The Residents are delighted to receive the handmade shawls and lap robes made for them by our members and given to them at the party. This time, each person chose the one she would like to have. We bring these creative gifts each year.
Our Council’s Spiritual Adviser, who joins us at all these events, is Rev. Msgr. John J. Demkovich. The Passaic-Clifton District Council is a member of the National Council of Catholic Women which encourages Catholic women to grow in spirituality and leadership in service to the Church and the community.
An Endearing and Lasting Relationship
