Members of the Auxiliary of the Little Sisters of the Poor celebrated their 100th anniversary with a Mass and luncheon at St. Joseph’s Home for the Elderly on Sunday, April 18, 2010. Ten charter members founded the organization in 1910 when they met at the home of Mrs. John P. Agnew.
A highlight of the luncheon was the Auxiliary’s presentation of an Anniversary Quilt to the home. Hand-sewn and embroidered, the quilt bears the names of donors who made the project possible.
“This beautiful hand-made quilt is a work of love, in which the Ladies Auxiliary not only planned and organized, but took the embroidery needles in hand to create a wonderful masterpiece. It is, you might say, the story of their 100 years of devotedness and service to the charism of Saint Jeanne Jugan, Foundress of the Little Sisters of the Poor, caring for the Elderly Poor. The Little Sisters and Residents of St. Joseph’s Home are deeply grateful, and in the name of the many Little Sisters and many Residents throughout these 100 years who have had the privilege to benefit from your love and faithful dedication, we thank you and promise you a daily remembrance in our prayers.
