On June 22, 2011 we held our first ever Wedding Memories Party.The idea was to remember and celebrate everyone’s Wedding Day. Residents and employees gave their wedding photos and gowns to put on display, including one gown hand-made by a Resident’s mother. Flower girl dresses, tulle, and lace were hung up to complete the decorations. Staff members came together and assisted the Residents in dressing up in beautiful gowns, tuxedos, and their finest formal wear—as if they were going to a grand wedding! Guests filed into the auditorium, accompanied by music provided by Pete Di Maio. After everyone was seated, the Wedding March was played and five lovely brides proceeded down the aisle. The brides were wearing gowns donated to the Activities Department or loaned to us for the day. The “Mother of the Bride” was there to hold the train and the “Father of the Bride” danced with all five! Champagne punch and Hors d’oeuvres were served by our volunteers, while everyone sang along to old time love songs. Finally, the beautiful wedding cake was displayed. It was baked and decorated in our own kitchen, and it was delicious!
It took many helping hands to make this day possible.Our thanks go out to all of the Residents, staff, volunteers, and, of course, to Mr. Di Maio for all they did to create a wonderful Wedding Day Memory for us all.
