Our Home is blessed with several employees who have been with the Little Sisters for many years. Those employees who are part of what is affectionately known as “The Over Thirty Club” were asked to participate in some reflective questions. Here are a few responses. Enjoy!
Mike Smith, Maintenance Director
Were you hired for the same position you hold now?
“I was hired as a maintenance man.”
What brings you back to the home day after day for over thirty years?
“To watch the dedication of the Sisters to our Residents. Also the fact that our Resident’s come first makes it very, very hard to say “no” to anyone. To know that you are a part of something larger than yourself.”
Guiseppe (Joe) Conte, Driver and Gardner
Were you hired for the same position you hold now?
“No, I started in Housekeeping.”
Is there one story about a resident or supervisor that you’ll always remember and would like to share?
“Being around the Residents is an experience in my life that means so much to me. I like to do anything I can for the Residents and love to share whatever time I can with them. I have seen some Residents that feel very truly at home here; how good it is to be here and how happy they are. I always carry a little happiness within me to share with the Residents. I get a sense of fulfillment from helping them. It has been a really nice experience for me.”
Sahi (Sherry)Botas, Seamstress for Residents
Is there one story about a resident or supervisor that you’ll always remember and would like to share?
“Everyday becomes a memory I cannot forget. But I will never forget the memories and days with Sr. Rosemary, l.s.p. (RIP).”
What brings you back to the home day after day for over thirty years?
“I love being here day after day! Everyone is very kind and wonderful. It was a big encouragement to me to receive the recognition of the Jeanne Jugan award in 2010. Everything is excellent about St. Joseph’s Home for the Elderly, Little Sisters of the Poor. It is a great place to be a part of!”
