Volunteer Ingrid Leonard decided to give not only of her time, but also of her wonderful talent. She had the idea of continuing a long-ago tradition started by her mother-in-law, Isabel Leonard, who once ran plant sales at the home, with the help of her son, Jim-Ingrid’s husband. (Interestingly, Isabel has been a Resident for 18 years…and recently celebrated her 100th Birthday!) Ingrid was very enthusiastic about sharing her hobby and starting up the plant sale tradition once again, with all proceeds benefiting our home.
These were not your ordinary potted plants! An avid gardener, she creatively displayed the fruits of her labor in old teacups, mugs and small watering cans—which not surprisingly, were the first to be sold. (Sorry…they were already gone when the photos were taken!) The selection of plants included the likes of Swedish Ivy, Wandering Jew and Spider plants. But perhaps more interesting were the plants she herself affectionately named—Grows Like Crazy, Saw Leaf Cactus, Bird’s Nest and Drunkard’s Dream. Thank you, Ingrid, for sharing your love of nature for us all to enjoy. I think the following quote by Robert Brault aptly describes your act of kindness…
“In nature we see where God has been. In our fellow man, we see where He is still at work.”
